To Become a Master's Student

This information is for foreign students who pay their own expenses or are supported by their own government. The following shows the steps for the foreign student to become a Master's student in the Graduate School of Human Development and Environment. The steps are different for Research Students, Credit-seeking Students, and Auditors, whose information can be found at To Become a Research Student, To Become a Credit-seeking Student, and To Become an Auditor.

1. To Pick the Division and Course
Please check the information about the divisions and courses at Master's Programs or Guidebook of the Graduate School of Human Development and Environment (in Japanese) and decide the division and course which you wish to apply to, considering your own research topic.
2. To Check the Requirements
You may check the requirements, the period for accepting applications, and application fees at [Master's Programs] Selection for General Students, Social Members, and Foreign Students (in Japanese) or at Kobe University/For Degree-seeking Graduate Students. Please make sure you contact the faculty member under whom you would like to pursue your research and consult with him/her about the possibility of acceptance and guidance. You may be asked to have an interview with the faculty member if necessary.
3. To Obtain an Application Form
To obtain an application form, please follow the instruction at [Master's Programs] Selection for General Students, Social Members, and Foreign Students (in Japanese). If you are applying from overseas, please ask someone who live in Japan to get an application form for you.
4. To Apply
To apply to the department, please follow the instruction which is sent with the application form. If you are applying from overseas, please consult with the student administration office about how to pay the application fees and sending an admission ticket to the examination.

5. To Take an Examination

6. To Be Accepted
A letter of acceptance and a letter of conditional admission are granted.
7. Procedure for Entering Japan
As a general rule, your representative in Japan should do the procedure for entering Japan, but the university also can do it for you in case your representative cannot for some reason.
8. Permission for Entering Japan
Please apply for a visa at a consulate of Japan in your country (if you are applying from overseas).
